It seems like therapists are always asked why they have chosen this profession and often times the answer is because they want to help people. Other times, it’s because of their own past trauma and adversity that led them to the field. The latter is what has led me on my journey to becoming a therapist. Seeing how mental illness and drug and alcohol addictions negatively impacted my family of origin made me want to study human behavior and past trauma to help stop the cycle of abuse in my family line. As I have grown and developed as a therapist I have discovered the deep level of empathy I am able to have with clients. I consider it a joy, honor, and privilege to meet and work with individuals who are wanting to process this thing called life.

Over the many years I have been working in the counseling field, I have noticed that people struggle to live in the present moment to help them manage what they are experiencing. I take a mindfulness approach to therapy helping individuals develop healthy tools in order to manage life's stress. I also believe that oftentimes, what we are currently experiencing in the present moment stems from the past and in order to live in the present and move forward towards the future we need to work through the stuff that is holding us back. I also believe the addictions and struggles we have are a symptom of something deeper we are struggling with. I use several different therapy approaches to help individuals achieve their goals including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR). I believe everyone is unique and has their own story so not one therapy approach will work for everyone.

I specialize in helping individuals process past trauma, including complex and attachment trauma. I also help individuals work through various addictions so they can move forward to being happier with their own life. For several years, I worked in community mental health and gained the knowledge and experience to help people learn how to identify and manage any symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, and in 2019, I opened my own practice to continue helping individuals find the hope, healing, and growth they are looking for.  I am EMDR certified and have taken many different trainings to help expand my knowledge and ability to use EMDR with trauma, mood disorders, and addictions.  I also work with individuals who are struggling in their relationships and want to develop healthier boundaries, communication skills, and learn how to develop and maintain healthy relationships.

I would love to meet with you to talk about your goals so I can begin to help you on this next chapter in your life.
